Hope all you guys have a happy new year! I am going to a clubnight that some people I know put on and then hitting the parties hard. I will probably be comatose tomorrow...maybe I should stock up on berocca and other great hangover cures before I go out...hmmm. Anyway, have yourselves a great time! :)

Hellooooo! How was your christmas?
Mine was ok, it was nice to see my family and eat some excellent christmas dinner but cabin fever sets in after 2 days and so does the realisation that I have turned into my mother! Eek. I also ate more chocolate than I thought could ever exist and watched an unhealthy amount of crime dramas. Good times!

LoveMore has tagged me to list 7 random things about myself...thanks lovely LoveMore! So...

1. I love Meatloaf...not the food, the man! When I was a kid all I listened to was Meatloaf and Michael Jackson. Ive got rid of Wacko but meaty still remains.
2. I am really obsessive compulsive and drive my housemates crazy when I tidy and organise around them.
3. White Russians are my favourite cocktails.
4. When I was younger I had a near-death experience in a poorly supervised upside-down fairground ride and so now I am distrustful of the carnie people!
5. I have a degree in art and design history but I kind of wish I had studied economics.
6. I want to live in a foreign country
7. I am really really really lazy :)

American Dreamin'

This is one hot ed, and not only because its an Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin shoot! There's something I find really sexy about Americana eds. I think this is based in the contrast between the casual plaid shirts and jeans under a bright blue sky and the seductive, almost trashy tone of jewelled, thousand dollar gowns against the strip malls and neon lights...the latter being a luxe paradox that I am completely in love with.

Weird Wednesday

So today is a half good/half bad day in the land of Blood Roses, in that my employer has told me and my colleagues that our jobs are at risk and redundancy will occur in Jan. MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS! Redundancy is obviously bad but I have been looking to leave for a while so this is a convenient forceful hand to push me. Maybe if I am lucky I can get a few quid out of them too! Eek.

Have you seen the Cobrasnake store? They have some pretty cool t shirts, on the pricey side for vintage but HOW MUCH DO I WANT THAT JURASSIC PARK T?! I am obsessed with JP, I think watching it when I was younger psychologically affected me in some way and I have dreams about being hunted by raptors a couple of times a week.

10 DAYS

Ten days till Christmas...OH DEAR! On saturday I made the silly mistake of leaving my house to go to topshop in apocalyptic weather conditions. I can't deal with the UK's weather any more, it is constantly rubbish. Wet summers, wet winters, wet hair, wet clothes. Grrr.

HAPPY FRIDAY!
I am all sniffly and ill so will probably hibernate in bed away from the freezing cold weather this weekend. Perhaps I will do some baking on Sunday too...banoffee pie om nom nom.
I still haven't bought any Christmas presents, partly due to laziness and partly because I am sure most stores will be starting their sales next week. I want to spend money on other people but only at half the recommended retail price :)
Anyway, enough of my miser ways...I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

'Word on the Street'

Contrary to my usual criticism of UK Vogue, I am actually loving this ed - it's refreshing to see cruise collections presented in a more urban, street-style, subcultural way. It reflects the fact that it is no longer the mature cruising generations taking advantage of transitional collections, and similarly shows the change in designers' loyalties - away from traditional pre-collectional practicality and neutrality and towards outrageous desirability. Yes, i'm talking fingerless leather gloves and Les Chiffoniers leather zipped leggings. Please be mine!

'You Go Girl'

Some more shots from Jan 09's Vogue Nippon. I think many women would find this styling so relatable in the sense that its quite practical for work/daily business - simplistic yet luxe, and I love the use of chunky gold, eighties accessories.

White Trumpet

I only came across White Trumpet on the weekend when the black dress in the bottom left image (from their AW08 collection) was featured in the Observor magazine - it is constructed by triangle pieces of material held together with poppers, and is pretty much my perfect dress. A visit to their website brought the news that Topshop will be stocking their SS09 collection from Feb 09 - this excites me greatly! US stockists include the lovely Opening Ceremony :)

Pondering

As per every month, I am in love with Vogue Nippon. And with Freja and those shoes!
Yesterday I read NYC Art Style's post about the differences between Italian and Chinese Vogue and it got me thinking about the cultural differences between East and West - personally I favour Nippon and Russia over the more traditionally 'high class' Italian and UK Vogues. I find them a little more directional and experimental. I would love to know what you think though...

FRIDAY

I hope you all have a great weekend - I have nothing too exciting planned, think I might battle the crowds to do some Christmas shopping and then hit the town on saturday night. Ooh and maybe I should actually make good on my resolution to buy some studs and revamp some of my old horrible clothes :)

I used to be obsessed with Courtney Love when I was younger, and I am still really intrigued by her, in a 'grunge-britney' kind of way. Elle have done a great job with the styling on this shoot, I especially love the silk and crystal Louise Goldin bodysuit in the bottom pic.
